Hi there. Well, the season is about starting up.
SPRING CLINICS
The officials’ development clinics just finished. It was an outstanding set
of clinics with about 70 people from at least three states! All the clinics
were well organized and extremely well run.
The coordinator, Carol Boice did a huge amount of work and organization up
front and it showed. Carol, from Pleasant Oak Water Ski Club and Sacramento
Water Ski Club, put on two scoring clinics. The Friday night session covered
basic WSTIMS input operations. Saturdays added in set up, tear down, and
getting reports out of WSTIMS.
Iris Hardeman (with her huge swollen, freshly operated on foot) of Berkeley
WSC came up from the Bay area to give the judges clinic. She enlisted Steve
Lock for a judges overview of speed control, and Carol for a judges
overview of scoring. Bob Hardeman helped a lot, including carrying Iris up the
stairs. One person who has been to clinics all over the country for many years
said this was the best he had ever attended.
Ruthie Heuton from Sky Lake did a nice job running a huge Safety clinic at
the CSUS pool. She may do another in the fall at Sky Lake. It is not true that
the participants called her Colonel Klink.
Brian Dulgar ran a Trained Drivers clinic for 10 people. Part of his
group came from Chico State. They were so enthused they decided it should be
mandatory their entire ski team to take the class.
Anytime you see Iris, Carol, Ruthie, Brian or Cindi Dulgar, tell them
thanks for working so hard to increase the number and quality of officials
available to us.
SACTO OPEN
Dan Wathor and Mike Nantze have been plotting the SACTO Open all winter to
make it the biggest ever and the first one to run on two lakes simultaneously.
We should be able to accommodate a huge crowd. We have sent out press releases
telling a little about SACTO and the fact that this is the best tournament
area in the world.
We are hoping for sponsors for the tournament. Any funds will help with
Junior Development, officials’ development, and running SACTO. If you have any
ideas to help increase the sponsorship, please call (775) 826-2950 or e-mail
me at [email protected].
WESTERN REGION COUNCIL RULE
Western Region Council in January decided the WSTIMS boat time files need
to be submitted for each tournament. The council will not consider record
requests for any tournament not submitting these files. Make sure your chief
scorers, chief judges, and chief drivers know about this requirement in
advance. For manually scored tournaments, apparently the sheets with all the
boat times will suffice.
The Western Region Council is very proactive toward having all tournament
rules followed to the letter. This seems particularly aimed at Rule 1.12 that
says, “be as close as possible to the actual specification.”
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT
We seem to be doing pretty well with advanced planning for Junior
Development clinics and projects. Cindi Dulgar has been on top of things as
usual and now, Marsha Rabeneau from Sunset Ranch has offered to help with the
coordinating and organizing. Marsha (530) 268-6992 will welcome ideas and
support.
Here are some additional SACTO Junior Development camps that are not in the
guide. Let your members know.

BYLAWS COMMITTEE
The bylaws committee will consist of Brian Dulgar (CSUS and Sacramento
Water Ski Club), Will Bush (Shortline), and Jim Lang (Lang Lake). Anyone
interested in giving input on bylaws needs, please contact anyone on the
committee or me. If you need a copy of the bylaws, please call or e-mail me.
TOURNAMENT BOX
Aw yes, the infamous box of radios, etc. Cindi has gone through the box
with Mike Martens and found nothing working. Even the box is broken. Unless we
hear otherwise shortly, our next step will live to donate the clipboards (yes,
they still work) to the collegiate or disabled skier program.
Cindi found a place to rent radios. BearCom in Sacramento rents Motorola
Radios for
$12.00 a day per radio and they pick up and deliver for too small a charge.
BearComs phone number is (916) 441-2327.
FALL SACTO CLINICS AND SACTO MEETING
The next SACTO Clinics are scheduled for October 20-21-22.
Tournament & Junior Development date selection and SACTO Membership
meeting is scheduled for October 21, 4:00p.m.
That is ALL the news fit to print.
